Started in the year 1928, The Ponnampet Town Co-op Bank has come a long way. This unique Co-operative institution in Kodagu was started by business-minded people during the British rule.
Traders and planters residing in and around Ponnampet became members of the institution with the objective of helping and uplifting fellow traders irrespective of caste or creed.
The institution was registered as Ponnampet Town Co-op Bank in 1945. Since its inception, the Bank has continued its journey with the faith, support and participation of the people of the region.
Pandianda Chengappa, who is considered a father figure of the Co-operative movement in Kodagu District, was instrumental in encouraging the institution during its formative years.
The Bank's early development was supported by several distinguished members of the community. Their dedication and commitment played an important role in establishing the institution and guiding it through its early years.
